Only voters can determine where Iowa goes on water quality

Regarding "Where does Iowa go next on water quality?" (Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023), the majority of the current group of legislators in the statehouse are hostile to clean water. For example, in the last session they enacted Senate File 558, which had the effect of weakening water quality monitoring in the state (see "Iowa House approves budget that could cut Iowa's water sensors," The Gazette, May 2, 2023). The governor signed the bill into law June 1, 2023.
Nothing will change until Iowa's voters demand clean water of the Statehouse. That means electing legislators and a governor who will enact meaningful legislation that addresses Iowa's poor water quality. All members of the Iowa House and half of the Iowa Senate are up for re-election this year (November 2024). The other half of the senate and the governor are up for re-election in another two years. Hold them accountable.
