Online school provides an important alternative

My son, Carson, has a muscular disorder which will leave him wheelchair-bound for life and ventilator dependent. His health care routine is quite substantial and requires around the clock assistance throughout the day. Because of the schedule needed to provide his care, and the threat of being surrounded by others who could potentially be sick, brick-and-mortar schools were not ideal. It was hard to provide him with an atmosphere where he could continue his education without being disrupted. Fortunately, online school provides an option for him to do just that.
Carson is enrolled in classes at Iowa Virtual Academy where he's getting the same education as any other child. Now he's able to complete his coursework at his own pace while sheltered from any bugs that could make his condition worse. The teachers also work with him and support his unique needs while helping him to succeed.
I believe that Carson is a perfect example of why online schools should exist. With online school, he doesn't have to compromise on his education or quality of life. I'll forever be thankful that this option is available for him.
