One vote can change Grassley’s numbers
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jul. 15, 2010 12:55 am
Election 2010 by the numbers:
60,000: The number of Iowans Sen. Chuck Grassley put in jeopardy by voting against extending unemployment benefits.
2.6 million: The number of dollars Grassley has received from the banking industry since 1989.
700 billion: The amount he repaid them in the form of a Wall Street bailout.
5: The number of times Grassley voted to give tax breaks to corporations that ship jobs overseas.
4: The number of decades Grassley will have spent in Washington if he wins re-election in November. (Four decades is also, coincidentally, twice my lifetime.)
3: The number of times Grassley voted to prevent debate on reforming our nation's broken financial system.
2: The number of states that have never elected a woman as governor or to Congress. (Ours is one of them.)
1: All it takes to change these things is one vote. Cast yours for Roxanne Conlin in November.
