For eight years a cozy, relaxing nook has resided at 112 32nd St. Drive SE in Cedar Rapids. Todd Meyer has finally succumbed to the pressures of the big box stores and the Amazons and E-readers.
He will be closing Mystery Cat Books at the end of July. Having spent many pleasant hours as an employee and customer amid the dusty shelves of this great place to read and converse and learn about books, I will miss the bookstore. I will miss the discovery of new authors and genres.
This type of bookstore is an iconic reminder of the past and a reminder of what has happened to the Borders and hundreds of small bookstores across the country.
So, a fond farewell to old friends, Todd and Ruth Meyer, and Mystery Cat Books.
