You do not need to be an older adult to be a member of the Older Iowans Legislature. In fact, if you live long enough to become an older citizen, you will be glad you had some say in how well you live.
The OIL meeting was recently held at the Iowa State Capitol. An important part of the meeting was selecting five top bills to present to the Iowa Legislature. They are as follows: 1. Leta's Law, an act to establish an Iowa Elder Abuse Law. 2. An act to eliminate the need for a home- and community-based services waiver. 3. An act to house sex offenders and combative residents in appropriate settings capable of providing a safe environment to all concerned. 4. An act to provide basic funding for the Iowa Department on Aging. 5. An act to protect Iowans against financial exploitations.
The purpose of the OIL is to “pursue quality of life for older Iowans.” Give some thought to your future and then plan to become a member. More information at www.olderiowans.org.
