Obey rules of the road and stay safe

Regarding the May 6 letter, 'Profiting from drivers' mistakes not leadership” by Eric Miller:
The writer carried on about the unfairness of traffic cameras, how he will not spend money in or visit Cedar Rapids again. How many times do we need to readdress this? Please note that in the same issue of The Gazette, there is an article stating the annual report on the cameras is in the hands of the Iowa Department of Transportation for review.
When I taught my children to drive, one of the first things I told them was the signals, signs and other rules of the road are there for a reason: obey them and stay safe.
I recently changed positions at my employer, which requires driving and keeping a clean driving record. I have become acutely aware of obeying traffic laws, as my job depends on it. Much to my dismay, I also have become acutely aware of the disrespect of the traffic laws and inattentive driving by others.
Let's move on to new topics. Surely in a city as large as Cedar Rapids, there must be more to talk about than complaining about being caught breaking the law.
