Obama supports the rights of women
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jun. 11, 2012 12:55 pm
Women's issues had a place in world politics at the recent G-8 Summit when President Obama said women should have a “seat at the table” in decision-making in international peace and security. The president has taken a stand on global policy affecting women. He has supported:
l Increasing economic development through education of women in technology and agricultural planning skills.
l Rescinding previous policy so that aid can flow to countries for the full range of health care for women.
l Providing strong support for survivors of gender-based violence in areas of conflict.
l Creating an agency to implement effective relief efforts for women during and after conflict.
l Designating an ambassador in the United Nations for addressing global women's issues.
In November, voters will have the opportunity to maintain this progressive foreign policy, supporting the rights of women around the world, by re-electing Obama.
