Obama supporting only union jobs
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Oct. 27, 2011 2:46 pm
President Obama says that he wants to create jobs. It appears, however, that he just wants to create union jobs. I am referring to the Oct. 16 Gazette story regarding Boeing building a plant in South Carolina (a right to work state) to build three 787 Dreamliners a month while the plant in Everett, Wash. (union only) builds seven a month. The backlog of 850 planes requires a faster build rate than seven a month to satisfy the customers. The South Carolina plant is also more cost efficient to help Boeing stay competitive with Airbus in France.
The National Labor Relations Board thinks that it has the right to tell Boeing whether or not it can use the South Carolina plant that is now operational. The NLRB has been packed with pro-union people by Obama, so there is no question how it would vote.
Closing the South Carolina plant will not only create more unemployment in South Carolina, but also in Cedar Rapids, and many other cities in the U.S. Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids builds much of the electronics equipment for the 787.
If you are concerned about U.S. unemployment, tell Sen. Chuck Grassley to have Congress do something about the job killing NLRB. He can be reached at 135 Hart Building, Washington, D.C. 20510-1501. Internet is www.grassley.senate.gov. Telephone is (202) 224-3744.
