Nurse recalls accuracy of hands-on medicine

Reading the May 26 article 'Patients lose as hands-on doctoring fades away” brought back some wonderful memories.
Years ago when I was an emergency room nurse at Mercy Medical Center I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Charlie Griffin. He was a family practice physician in Dyersville before coming to Mercy.
He would go see a patient with only a stethoscope and with that and his hands he usually knew what the problem was. Of course, tests may be needed but his diagnosis was almost always correct. It is sad to hear that doctors are no longer trained to practice medicine that way.
Dr. Griffin was not only a great physician, but a very nice person as well. May he rest in peace.
