Not the cameras’ fault you were speeding

Once again a disgruntled driver from outside of Cedar Rapids got a speeding ticket on Interstate 380 and will never visit here again ('Profiting from drivers' mistakes not leadership,” May 6 by Eric Miller). The driver admitted that he broke the law but didn't see the speed limit signs (what?), and besides, there was very little traffic, so he was exempt from the law, I guess that's what he is telling us.
I fail to see that it's the fault of the cameras or Cedar Rapids. Let's examine this - speed limit signs are posted along with signs that say 'photo enforced.” Typically, speed limits are reduced when an interstate goes through a city or even close to them. By the way, the speed limit is reduced in two steps - 70 to 65 to 55 mph. Plenty of time and warning to let up on the gas. Oh, and did I mention that you arrogant habitual speeders have a cushion of 12 mph over the speed limit until you have your picture taken and a letter in the mail?
Personally, because I live in this area, it is refreshing to drive Interstate 380 through Cedar Rapids and experience the traffic slowing down and driving at a safe speed for all the lane changes and on and off traffic. Occasionally, though, we have those drivers who like to pose for the cameras, but they too are getting the message or staying away from Cedar Rapids so Interstate 380 is safer for the rest of us.
