Northrup stood by his convictions
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Mar. 8, 2011 2:38 pm
I want to salute Linn-Mar's Joel Northrup for defaulting in state wrestling. He stuck by his conviction that wrestling a girl just isn't right.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association should be criticized for letting this happen. If girls really want to wrestle, they should have a class just for girls.
I certainly think Joel is a real gentleman for taking his stand and I hope all the boys' wrestling teams will follow Joel's decision, and that should make it plain to those in charge: Eliminate girls from boys wrestling.
