No reason to bring another cheetah to U.S.
Apr. 26, 2010 12:28 am
I urge the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to deny Lionshare Zoological's permit application for another cheetah from South Africa.
Unfortunately, it appears that Lionshare's application for importing cheetahs from South Africa was approved last year. Why would they need to import an additional cheetah?
I am very concerned that Lionshare Farm Zoological will use the cheetahs for the purpose of breeding for zoos and for the pet trade. There is no sound reason for anyone in the United States to breed cheetahs for this purpose and call it conservation.
Additionally, bringing captive cheetahs to the United States for conservation education really does nothing to conserve the species. It only serves the individual interest of a private exotic animal collector.
Wild animals belong in the wild. Please deny this application.
