No longer can support Grassley
Aug. 23, 2022 6:00 am
I am 84 years old and I never dreamed in the last 50 years, I would need to write this letter. I served with Chuck Grassley in the Iowa Legislature. He in the House and myself as a Democrat in the Senate. We worked together to pass special education legislation. I crossed party lines to do so. As a Democrat, I have voted for him for 43 years (over half my life!) No more. Not this year. Not ever again.
The following are some of my reasons why:
Sen. Grassley blocked Merrick Garland's nomination when he was Judiciary chairman, he voted against confirmation of qualified Judge Ketanji Jackson to be first Black woman on the U.S. Supreme Court. He voted against Dr. Martin Luther King Jr holiday. He refused to join a bipartisan group to deal with firearms. The first action in over a decade!
He accepted twice impeached former President Donald Trump’s endorsement. The last straw was Chuck's comment that armed IRS agents are "ready to shoot" business owners. The man I supported all these years is unrecognizable. Very Sad.
There is hope and possibly a chance I will get to cross party lines again someday, and vote for a Republican if she runs for president. Her name is Liz Cheney.
I have never met his opponent, Admiral Franken nor have I ever spoken with him or his staff. He has not asked me to write this letter.
