No justification for more parking lots

The Cedar Rapids Historic Preservation Commission is wise to ask Mercy Medical Center how many parking lots are enough. In Monday's Gazette report, the hospital's facilities manager was said to have justified demolishing properties to create parking lots because “some people have to walk three or four blocks to work.”
Really, should not Mercy, as a health care institution, be encouraging its employees to walk? Three or four blocks is a pretty short distance and certainly is not justification for creating more expanses of concrete.
