No freedom or justice in judges’ ouster
N/A

As I watched election returns, I couldn't recognize my friendly, accepting state.
A majority of homophobic, misled voters said they want to deny one group the right to pursue happiness in marriage. Clearly the will of the people does not guarantee justice.
Had the people's will been law throughout our nation's history, we would still have slavery, segregation and a ban on interracial marriage. No women would hold property or public office or be in law, medicine or the military. And the only people entitled to vote would be white, property-owning males.
Fortunately, a few strong leaders issued proclamations or took brave votes for equality.
I just hope that the next time those who voted to oust three Iowa Supreme Court justices say the Pledge of Allegiance, they consider the meaning of “freedom and justice for all” and reflect on their actions.
