New school supply: A desire to learn
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jan. 31, 2011 1:28 pm
The Jan. 26 column by Jennifer Hemmingsen on education was a good one. We have been chasing after smoke (in the form of magical fixes that do not address the real problem) for far too long. If students would come to school with a belief that learning is important and with a desire to learn, wonderful things would happen. Teachers are there waiting to guide them through the process.
Demands on the students by parents and the system and the necessary effort on the part of the students to learn will accomplish learning.
