New group warns of ‘Christian nationalism’ attacking public ed

My name is Jodie and I am a lifelong Iowa resident, parent, and former special-education teacher. I am also the Iowa chair for Defense of Democracy. We are a non-partisan group advocating for an inclusive public education system.

Our communities are made up of a variety of people of different backgrounds, cultures, beliefs, genders, and sexual orientations. I want to state how strongly I feel that everyone needs to be represented.

My hope is that by writing this letter, I will raise awareness in our communities about the local threat posed by Christian nationalist groups. In addition, I want to raise awareness of the counter-movement and Defense of Democracy’s growing presence in Iowa.
