New C.R. library needs classic design to fit in

How unfortunate. The library board has selected a classic setting for the new Cedar Rapids Public Library, across from Greene Square Park, the classic Museum of Art and the timeless First Presbyterian Church. Now the board seems to want to drop in their midst a contemporary building with all the style, charm and classic design of two cereal boxes.
I'm shocked, but not surprised. Until Cedar Rapids leaders learn to embrace the city's history, respect its past and preserve or complement what's left of our architectural heritage, our legacy will be a town with a mishmash of styles and no real character.
