I have lived on Forest Drive SE, one block south of Washington High School, for 47 years. Daily, I watch runners, walkers, students, dog walkers use our sidewalk. I also watch large teams of runners from the school do the workouts on our sidewalks. I see people using walkers or being pushed in wheelchairs. It is a busy street!
In concern for others, many years ago I was the person who asked for a ramp at the end of our sidewalk to help the elderly, bicyclists, strollers and people in general cross more easily. The morning and afternoon crossings when school lets out does not take 30 minutes. Indeed, in reality, it is 10 to 15 minutes during those times.
I urge the city fathers/mothers to reject the roundabout because of the expense, the lack of need and the dangers as buses, trucks, runners, the elderly from Cottage Grove and the walkers who use our neighborhood negotiate these streets.
