Much was learned at Girls State

To the editor:
I was pleased to see guest columnist Sruthi Palaniappan's article 'A lot to learn at Girls State” in the July 6 Gazette.
It also was a wonderful experience for me as a high school girl from a very small town and it changed my life as well.
I knew I must find a way to go to college for starters. I learned that the political process is quite complicated and needed to be understood in order for it to make a difference. The biggest lesson I learned, however, was the every vote does count. I lost my bid for senator by one vote.
The Girls State governor the year I was a participant was also from Cedar Rapids. Thank you for publishing Sruthi's message.
