Mother's stern warning was taken seriously

Referring to the Nov. 16 article, “If your child seems allergic to school, find out what's really bugging her.” Keeping in mind this article was written by a liberal Washington Post reporter, it deals with many things parents should do to determine how to induce their child to enjoy going to school. Even suggesting getting psychological help or transferring to another school.
I remember voicing my displeasure going to elementary school one day, and could I stay home. My mother solved my problem her way. She said, “You put your cap and coat on or you're going to get a hard slap on your behind. Now git!”
It must have worked because we never visited a psychiatrist, nor changed schools, and I wound up getting a bachelor's degree in engineering.
