Mothers nursing in public should use discretion
The Gazette Opinion Staff

The other day at work, there was a large group standing around waiting for service. A lady came and sat down on a bench amid all the people, opened her shirt and exposed her entire, very large breast and proceeded to nurse her baby. Out of concern for my customers, I approached her and politely said, “Ma'am, could you please cover with a blanket?”
This lady informed my boss that she has the right to feed her baby anywhere she wants and how dare someone say something to her! I am not disputing her “rights.”Why is it that other people are made to feel uncomfortable because of herrights? Why can't we say anything to her because it offends her but it's OK for her to offend us by not being discreet?
There were other places in the store more secluded with a lot less traffic where women often nurse. If she would have done what she did without a baby, there she would have been arrested for indecent exposure.
There are many “natural” things we humans do. But for a lot of them, we use discretion while in public so we don't offend others. The world does not revolve around nursing mothers. Ladies, please be respectful to others as you nurse in public; use discretion.
I, too, was a mother who nursed in public but cared enough about people around me to not thumb my nose at them because of my rights!
