Most people vote for party, not candidate

The voting public in the United States is evenly divided. About
40 percent Democrat and 40 percent Republican. The true liberal Democrat would vote Democrat if Joseph Stalin was the nominee. On the other hand, a true conservative would vote Republican if Adolf Hitler headed the ticket. All campaigns are really directed toward the middle 20 percent swing voters who actually put some thought in their vote.
From my perspective, I'm reminded of the cartoon depicting the guy sitting in a prison cell, in proper prison garb with handcuffs and ball and chain. The caption has him saying “look at all the security I have. A roof over my head, in my own warm place, three meals a day, and best of all, it's all free.” A liberal utopia. A conservative's coming nightmare.
