Monica Vernon is the better candidate
The Gazette Opinion Staff

November's election offers a stark choice in candidates for Cedar Rapids City Council District 2. Incumbent Monica Vernon represents a better candidate not only in terms of experience, but also in priorities. Vernon has run her own successful business for many years in addition to an active life of community service, which includes working on city boards and commissions.
In terms of priorities, she was the only one of the three candidates at the recent Gazette/KCRG-TV9 forum to cite flood protection as one of her top three priorities. Neither of the other candidates has Vernon's resume of experience. And by neglecting to acknowledge the importance of flood protection, the other candidates show a lack of awareness of the devastation that another flood would cause not only to Cedar Rapids, but also to the surrounding communities that depend upon it.
