Money needed to continue mental health services
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Apr. 23, 2013 1:00 pm
I support the Iowa Senate's vote to provide $43 million to mental health services. I am happy that senators from both sides of the aisles were able to come together to make this important decision that will positively affect many Iowans.
I have worked closely with people with mental health issues for five years and have seen the effects of providing timely mental health services. Allowing major cuts and increasing waiting lists would be harmful to an already vulnerable group of people. This group of people needs help after working out of an outdated system. With any luck, this money will lead to new delivery system of mental health services in the state.
Hopefully, the House will understand the importance of this bill and how many individuals and family members will be directly impacted in a positive way if the bill is passed.
