Money for protection spent on other projects

Seventy-five million dollars for a hotel. Millions more for a new fire station and land. Millions more for a new library and land in Cedar Rapids. The total of these three projects probably could have paid for a flood wall on both sides.
In Marion, we were promised sewer updates the last five years and street updates. I have yet to see this done. But we do have a roundabout on 35th Street with irrigation and stupid corn metal statues. We also got an uptown project that has five phases with only phase one paid for via LOST funds.
They also are counting on LOST funds for the Tower Terrace Road to Highway 13, which will allow 3,000 to 4,000 new homes to be built in the area that received almost 8 inches of rain, which almost flooded out Sun Valley in Cedar Rapids. Sun Valley should be very nervous.
Cedar Rapids and Marion have openly squandered LOST funds for their own pet projects.
With a new gas tax hanging over our heads, $5-a-gallon gas and last year's home tax increase, what sane person would want more taxes? Vote no on Tuesday.
