Mistake to raise taxes on energy producers
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jan. 1, 2012 11:54 am
Recently, several members of Congress signed a letter to both President Obama and Speaker John Boehner, asking them to raise taxes on energy producers by the tune of more than $50 billion. This would be a grave mistake.
Many of these companies are responsible for employing more than 9 million Americans and the same companies also contribute billions of dollars into our economy every year. If companies are hiring and continually looking to expand, they should be rewarded and not punished.
The president has repeatedly made an effort to punish those with whom he disagrees. I urge him and Congress to applaud these energy producers for providing Americans with work during these troubled economic times instead of punishing them with job killing taxes.
