Missing Iowa GOP leadership
Dec. 12, 2022 6:00 am
I’m concerned about the health of our GOP Iowa governor and congressional delegation. Have they lost their voices due to COVID? Flu? Yelling at transgender kids? Must be something going around. In only the last month Donald Trump has defended the Jan. 6 traitors, defended his possession of top-secret documents at Mar-a-Lago, had lunch with the antisemite Kanye West, and Nazi/white supremacist Nick Fuentes and then called for tearing up parts of the Constitution of the United States! And managed to continue to spout his delusion that he won in 2020 to anyone who will listen.
And from our governor and congressional delegation? Crickets.
Are there NO limits to how much bowing, scraping and genuflection our supine GOP leaders will engage in before “Dear Leader? Are they in that much fear of his equally delusional base? As was once asked of 1950s demagogue Sen. Joe McCarthy who, like Trump, made a career of character assassination: “Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?”
Well, governor, senators and congresspersons, what’s it going to be? Will you step up to at least the spirit of your oath and publicly condemn these outrages? Or jeez, maybe even condemn Trump’s continuing attempt to overthrow the government of the United States?
You are all on the payroll, or soon will be. Time to step up and stand for something besides election.
