Miracles in Motion grateful for volunteers
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Apr. 28, 2013 12:16 pm
National Volunteer Week (April 21-27) provided an opportunity to thank the volunteers who contribute their time to Miracles in Motion Therapeutic Equestrian Center. We appreciate the 149 individuals, groups, businesses and families who volunteered more than 7,000 hours in 2012. They played key roles in the success of our classes, fundraising, board activities, office work, property work and operations.
Miracles in Motion provides therapeutic horseback riding lessons and other equestrian activities for people with physical and mental disabilities. Riders enjoy contact with horses and dedicated volunteers through riding, leading and grooming ponies, therapy on horseback and driving carts. Each participant requires two or three volunteers to support the activity and ensure his/her safety by leading a horse or walking beside the rider in classes. Other volunteers participate in instructing, fundraising, property upkeep, publicity, office work, program management, and board membership. Through the dedication of our volunteers, Miracles in Motion serves more than 160 student riders from Eastern Iowa.
This is our 25th year of creating opportunities to connect people with the energy and spirit of the horse. We're grateful to those who have helped us improve the lives of people with disabilities in the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City area.
Find your passion and do yourself a favor: volunteer.
