Miller-Meeks misleads readers on bill

In the Jan. 24 Gazette, 2nd District congressional candidate Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks' guest column suggested that passage of H.R. 2454 would create a financial burden on people trying to sell their homes. According to her column, the legislation would require that a home undergo an energy-efficiency inspection and possibly be retrofitted with energy saving features before it is sold.
The information Miller-Meeks provided in her opinion piece is inaccurate. H.R. 2454 is also known as the Energy Cap and Trade bill, and passed the House last summer. I researched the bill on the Internet and discovered that the provision described by Miller-Meeks was removed from the bill before passage.
Miller-Meeks either has trouble researching and reading bills before Congress or she deliberately attempted to mislead readers. Neither option speaks well of her as a candidate.
