Merge counties to save money

To the editor:
I read the big issues of 2015 column in the Jan. 11 Gazette. The big issue seemed to be the tight budget this year.
We are in 2015. We don't need 99 counties in the State of Iowa. Possibly 20 county districts would suffice with small towns withering and school districts merging.
We have roads. We have communication. Let's get out of the 1800s with our 99 county courthouses and save some money.
