It's time for a close-up peek at Cedar Rapids animal shelter's summer collection of cats and dogs seeking a permanent home. They're housed where it's nice and cool, so you can view them and make your choice in comfort these hot days.
As of this writing: Tinka is a lovely 4-year-old cat, seemingly friendly with children, other cats and probably friendly dogs. Bigger Butter Brickle, a beautiful cat, had a home but needs another one. There's Monique, a unique calico and Houdini, the pale yellow purr machine, a fascinating creature.
Mouse, happy, long hair, easy going is near Batman, one of several wonderful black cats.
If you want a nice cat that looks like a mosaic of color, choose Professor. Also see Mosaic himself.
Want a small, striped, less spectacular but sweet kitty? Choose Pastel or Shayne. Speaking of sweet and gentle, young and very active, playful Tangeia would be a good choice.
As for dogs, there's a young looking Mastiff type male, some Labrador retrievers and some pit bull blends, and don't forget the little guys that seem to be Chihuahua types.
These great potential pets and others would each have a different story to tell if they could talk. Dozens of fabulous cats and dogs desperately needing a nice human caretaker.
Yes, they cost some dollars, but one gets a lot for the money. These animals are available at 2109 North Towne Lane NE, from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
