Medical mall good, but so is a street kept open

Many thanks to Tim Charles (Mercy Medical Center president/CEO) for his Sunday guest column about possible effects of a medical mall on our hospitals. And thanks also to Dr. Hugh MacMenamin for the refreshing good sense on containing health care costs. And thanks to Ted Townsend (St. Luke's Hospital president/CEO) for making some interesting points as well.
The vision of a thriving medical district is attractive, although I'm still skeptical about the need for this mall. Having said that, the main objection I have is closing (a portion of) Second Avenue.
If the benefits are as important and far-reaching as mall proponents say, surely it's worth it to spend a little more now and keep Second Avenue open.
My logic is simple: Fix the plan.
