McKean party switch gives reader a little hope

The recent decision by Rep. Andy McKean to leave the Republican Party instills in me a little hope. He is a politician in the tradition of former Gov. Robert Ray, a person who stood for the common good of the state and nation.
We now have a Republican Party attempting to alter our judicial nominating system, which has proved to be one of the best in the nation; promoting stun guns on college campuses, open carry of guns on school grounds, and failing to adequately fund clean water initiatives so sorely needed. Not to mention the solid support for Donald Trump. We have Sen. Chuck Grassley, Sen. Joni Ernst, Gov. Kim Reynolds, Rep. Lee Hein, and Sen. Dan Zumbach in lock step with this man. Where is the decency we once had in the Republican Party?
It is time to call it like it is: Trump is a pathological liar, a fraud, and a person unfit to be President of the United States. It begs the question of why we don't have more Republicans standing up against this man, his policies and his rhetoric.
