Andy McKean and I first met in 1975 when we were both first year law students. He soon impressed me with his knowledge and pride in his many Jones County ancestors dating back to the mid-1800s.
Andy practiced law in Anamosa and I worked in Monticello. We regularly opposed each other representing our respective clients. Never once did I have cause to question his honesty or ethics. He conscientiously pursued conflict resolution when consistent with his client's interests. Whenever Andy spoke, I could always count on his word.
When it comes to his politics, Andy doesn't take orders well from so-called party leaders. Legislators in Des Moines are expected to dutifully follow the dictates from their party leaders in sheeplike fashion. That is not Andy's style. He does his own research and analysis on proposed legislation, and only then, determines what is best for his district and for Iowa.
Andy is running for representative from House District 66. His ethical compass, dogged independence, and wise judgment make him the epitome of a citizen-legislator.
