Mathis has job training ideas
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Become a welder and you should have been a nurses' aide? Learn to fix cars, which now are run by computer? Some huge company buys your company and fires you? In those cases and millions of others, 5 million people were fired who haven't found jobs. Of those who have, many are not using their years of training and experience.
My candidate, Liz Mathis, has a solution for you.
In contrast to her opponent's repetition of the Republican's litany, “Government is part of the problem,” Liz is aware that some projects need a larger and more qualified institution to help people.
She realizes that some of the unemployment tragedy is found among workers who have been employed in jobs sent overseas or to other states. Because most jobs workers are trained for will not return, ex-employees need retraining. The Mathis workforce development plan includes worker retraining programs so that affected former employees, who have already proved their employability, will be able to move into new jobs.
This alone will not solve the problem, nor will any single program, and Liz has other plans to build employment. I prefer a government-supported plan to give the unemployed a chance to the Republican plan of giving more money to the millionaires and cutting regulations made for our protection. They tried that for eight years and look where it got us.
Vote for Liz and give our workers a chance.
