Marriage not necessary to recognize gay union
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Apr. 20, 2010 12:51 am
The definition of marriage is spousal. A spouse is a husband (man) or a wife (woman). When they get married, they become mates. Mate means to procreate (father or mother). Allowing same-sex couples a marriage license makes a mockery, a farce, of a real marriage. If they feel the need for a legal document, that's fine, but it doesn't have to be a marriage license.
Forget your political affiliation and vote for who promises to make sure that Iowans get the right to vote on this issue. Don't say this is not important. I believe that widows and widowers, husbands and wives, think it is very important.
