Marriage equality a reason to dance
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jun. 29, 2011 11:57 am
The recent legislative accomplishment for marriage equality in New York has me thinking of the song by the Dixie Chicks, “Some Days You Gotta Dance.” For me, it's time to dance.
A big “woot hoot” shout out to the people of New York! Thanks for sharing the touching story of the two gentlemen who have been committed to each other for 60 years and will finally be able to legally marry in 30 days.
If you want to check the facts for yourself on Iowa's Varnum v. Brien ruling, you are able to reach that at www.
iowacourtsonline.org. Our judges ruled fairly. Also, give the 1967 case, Loving v. Virginia, when the federal Supreme Court legalized interracial marriage equality, some consideration.
Iowa is a great compass on the nation. Glad to have New York join the celebration.
