Many still prefer Westdale

In response to the Sept. 12 article “Dispute with J.C. Penney delays, could derail Westdale plans”: There are some considerations that should be considered for redevelopment. Negotiation with the anchors should have been done before anything started including plans. I think the idea for redevelopment is long overdue for this mall, however, I do wonder about an outdoor facility due to Iowa's weather in the winter - snow, ice, freezing rain and cold temperatures. Could there be a possibility of preserving the inside at all?
I understand the longtime Westdale tenants are scared for the future. I hope whatever is left can be saved. Westdale would need restaurants and stores new to the Cedar Rapids market to be able to compete with Lindale Mall.
Many patrons still prefer Westdale for its location, layout, and less crowded environment. I have observed other malls in Iowa become successful at renovation projects similar to this. It will take proper leadership and wise decisions for those involved.
