Many reasons to dislike Trump, but not his policies

“What’s your most important question?” I asked students to voluntarily and anonymously write their individual responses. Among the submissions: “Why do so many people like Trump? HE SUCKS!
Now, I could think of many reasons for not liking Trump, his rough rhetoric and his methods. But most like government accountability, common-sense goals and beneficial policies. Remedies for a bloated bureaucracy, rife with waste, corruption and fraud exposed by DOGE. Halting continued ”free” education, health care and phones for millions of illegals by closing the Southern border. Deporting criminal illegals, eliminating unnecessary entitlements and anti-American agencies, restoring “made-in-America”; enacting fair trade with tough tariffs, creating energy independence with domestic drilling — measures without which spell eventual economic suicide. Also, restoring science and sanity with time-honored biological differences of male and female, parental rights, and school choice. Those opposing such constitutional rights and traditional values because they don’t like Trump may find themselves opposing what’s best for America.
Students wanted me to read aloud their written gems. I did so without comment. However, after understanding one student’s parent was among the DOGE cuts, I pondered that aforementioned question and comment. Yes, it hurts. I pondered my past. Twice I was terminated with 30-day severances resulting in complete career changes and relocation of my young family. Thankfully, in the USA this wasn’t the end of the world. Like Trump or not, desperate times call for desperate measures. As students were about to dismiss, my only comment was, “Remember, at one time we all sucked!”
