Make glass acceptable at landfill

Cart before the horse. Whoever coined that phrase must have been thinking of our Cedar Rapids public officials.
Glass containers are now deemed too expensive to recycle so the thinking is to eliminate curbside recycling pick up. Then what? We store the empty containers until the house is full and then move out of town? I offer two solutions to the problem. One is to ban all glass containers from sale in the city. The other is to tax glass containers at a level which pays for their recycling.
Of course, the idea that waste must provide an income stream defies all logic. We already pay substantial fees for waste collection. Glass containers are not going to disappear by fiat.
The political solution to a fiscal problem is to suddenly make glass again acceptable at the landfill. Let someone else in the future deal with this issue, but not on my watch.
