My friend, who uses a walker, and I had a great experience while crossing Seventh Avenue in Marion on Aug. 25. The streetlight turned red when we were halfway across this very busy avenue. Our “knight in shining armor,” the driver of a large vehicle, waited patiently and quietly while we were allowed to continue safely across the avenue. His large vehicle shielded the view of the drivers behind him, so they did not see the red light change to green. There were no honking horns and no nasty shouted words. We safely reached the other side of the avenue and traffic moved again.
Thursday's incident is proof positive that we have fine people in our area.
I can only hope the person who wrote recently regarding the “vocabulary impaired” Cedar Rapids police officer will have many great experiences with our wonderful citizens.
