Long-term flood prevention possible

I agree with Rich Patterson that measures like permeable concrete and increased soil permeability are great for short-term flood mitigation ('Retain stormwater to reduce flood threats,” June 26). However, those measures won't stop the floods of the future.
As our atmosphere gets warmer, it will be able to hold more and more moisture, and as a result, we'll have larger and larger floods. The long-term solution to flood mitigation is to put a price on carbon emissions and the only people in our area who can do that are Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst and Representatives Rod Blum and Dave Loebsack. Call and ask them to provide long-term flood prevention.
