Local rescue supports C.R. puppy ordinance

Dogs Forever of Iowa, a local nonprofit rescue and shelter, joins with other area animal welfare organizations in supporting the passage of a local ordinance banning the retail sale of puppy mill dogs.

While we help re-home local strays and hardship cases requiring owner-surrender, most of our dogs come from other reputable shelter/rescue organizations that are overcrowded. In many instances, these dogs have special needs, making placement in a home more challenging. Unfortunately, only the most current information about these dogs is available and their prior life-stories are often a mystery.

In some instances, our intake team has accepted hard-to-place dogs whose past is known to have included neglect, abuse or abandonment. Some number of these dogs may have been the products of puppy mill breeding but, without documentation, we can only speculate. Needless to say, Dogs Forever never knowingly 'teams” with any puppy mill breeder. To support puppy mill breeding would directly conflict with our mission of helping homeless dogs of all ages, breeds and sizes.
