Local government cannot control spending
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Apr. 29, 2011 10:21 am
Did it ever occur to anyone that extra taxes rob from your families and more often that not, go to projects that we don't need?
In the last 22 years, our company hasn't even paid their employees “cost of living” increases. Yet the city is attempting to extend the local-option sales tax for projects they don't need to be involved in.
Most likely, we will never experience another flood with the magnitude of 2008. Did the city ever think that until all of the bridges are raised, that a flood wall is a moot point? It will serve no purpose other than more tax to the citizens.
More taxes, or extending taxes, simply robs us of assets for retirement, food, insurance and the unsatisfactory and unexplainable cost of gas.
We should be more concerned with saving rather than being taxed by a local government that is totally out of control with their spending. I will be voting no to extending this ridiculous tax.
