List of letter writers a waste of space

To the editor:
I cannot think of a more outrageous waste of space and talent than running a list of 2014 letter writers, as done in Sunday's Gazette (and as done a year ago, as I recall). The purpose of an opinion page is to provoke thought and foster community discussion. A list does neither. A list panders. It does nothing to move the community forward.
Where was Charles Krauthammer's column? Where was Leonard Pitts? With so much thought-provoking material that never sees print, running a list is wasteful or, worse, cowardly. Everyone responsible for this should be ashamed.
No more of this next year, please. Commit journalism instead.
