Linn-Mar growth needs long-term solution

Linn-Mar has a problem. Explore the northern parts of Marion and note the exponential growth. Not just a house here and there, but entire neighborhoods popping up in a matter of seasons. Many purchasers of these homes have children, accounting for nearly 200 new students per year throughout the district - a steady trend.

Absorbed into Linn-Mar's existing infrastructure, these students have been received effectively … until recently. Now 'mobile classrooms” are the temporary solution to a long-term problem that the school district is trying to address through the passage of this $55 million facilities bond.

Voting yes on Sept. 11 will alleviate burgeoning building numbers. And to those in favor of it, thank you in advance for chipping in toward the solution and having the foresight to invest in education and the community as a whole (quality schools can increase property values - they're cited as a main reason people move here - myself included).

For voters leaning toward 'no,” I sincerely ask you to contact the school and have your specific concerns addressed. The reasons to vote yes are numerous and logical.

If you are currently a firm no vote for reasons pertaining to the stadium and aquatic center, please be open-minded. Sadly, I hear those two facilities, approved by the school board over a decade ago, are often the reason cited for a negative vote. How long will you hold your grudge? The past cannot be altered, but we can impact tomorrow positively by voting yes. Reconsider and be a part of the solution!
