Linn County has a lot at stake in casino decision

I was proud to be in the audience April 3 at the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission's public hearing.
My pride wasn't for one side or the other, but rather in what I witnessed as a heartfelt and respectful airing of different perspectives.
Linn County has a lot at stake in getting the casino; the communities with casinos already in place fear they have something to lose.
It's being presented as a fear-based, win-lose decision, and I have to believe there is a win-win solution here. Whichever side 'loses,” there is fear about what the future will hold.
The studies and statistics do not favor a casino here, so I hope there is a Plan B. If, however, the decision is in favor of the casino here, I hope we will find compassion for the other communities affected, and be good and generous neighbors.
