Linn County auditor cares about people

Regarding the Sept. 24 article 'Auditor rides bus to register voters”:
It seems Joel Miller angered Linn County Supervisor Brent Oleson when he spent time riding the city bus to register voters. Oleson felt that Miller, a Democrat, was targeting a group of people who are more likely to vote Democratic. He was even more flippant when he asked if Miller intended to go to the Cedar Rapids Country Club to register voters as well. My guess is that CRCC members cringed at this remark.
I have news for you, Oelson, and to the rest of the supervisors who target this man. Miller showed up at my 96-year-old mother's house in Cedar Rapids on a Sunday afternoon this past primary season. He hand delivered an absentee ballot because she is immobile and time was too short to mail one out before the election. My mom is Republican. I am, too. He stayed and talked with us as she filled it out in private. Then he took it with him. Guess what? He was not campaigning. He was doing his job in a very personal, humane way and we appreciated that so much.
Linn County would be better served to have their supervisor's take a few interpersonal lessons from this auditor. He made an very positive impact on us because he cared enough to go out of his way. Not because he was stacking the Democratic deck. You should try it.
