Letterhead seeking renewal was misleading

To the editor:
I am delighted to live in a thriving community such as Marion, which is also proud of its heritage.
I recently received a letter from the Marion Historical Society reminding me to renew my membership. At the bottom of the page were the logos for both the Marion Heritage Center and the Granger House Museum. I was ready to send in the check when I recalled that we had received a notification in April that the Marion Historical Society and the Granger House Museum were becoming separate entities with separate missions and goals.
The reminder letter was signed only by Historical Society board members, even though the Granger House Museum logo was on the letter. Being confused about whether my check would be divided between the two entities or go only to the historical society, I contacted the MHS Museum Director, Lynette Brenzel. I was told that they are indeed now separate entities and that they were soliciting membership dues only for the historical society. However, 'during the transition we used existing letterhead.”
I regard this as very misleading. I wonder how many other people, thinking they were joining both groups, sent a check to the historical society. If this is so, I suggest that you contact the Marion Historical Society and request that your dues either be split between the two organizations or returned to you to be divided as you see fit.
